The Bible is many things to many people. What we can be sure of is that Jews are supposed to read the Torah once each year, every year of their lives after their Bar Mitzvah. Few of us succeed in that, but at the very least we should have read the Tanakh in its entirety at least once. For that reason, Stuart Cohen is leading a

BIBLE READING GROUP!

To sign up, please send Mandy an email, and she'll add you to the CSSTorah@googlegroups.com email. The below you will find links to text and commentary sites, including places to download the Tanakh.

Schedule is as follows:

GENESIS: Begin now, finish by January 10 (that’s when Stuart will be back from  overseas)
EXODUS: Jan 10th-Feb 20
LEVITICUS: Feb 20-March 30
NUMBERS: May 1-June 10
DEUTERONOMY: June 10-July 20
JOSHUA: July 20-August 20
JUDGES: August 20-September 20
Etc etc. We can speed up the pace, if necessary, but we want to keep chugging until we’ve read the whole Tanakh, however long that takes.

And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and dost possess it, and dwell therein; that thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which thou shalt bring in from thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee; and thou shalt put it in a basket and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there. And thou shalt come unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him: 'I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the land which the LORD swore unto our fathers to give us.' And the priest shall take the basket out of thy hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God. And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God: 'A wandering Aramean was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there, few in number; and he became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous. And the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondage...

When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God delivereth them into thy hands, and thou carriest them away captive, and seest among the captives a woman of goodly form, and thou hast a desire unto her, and wouldest take her to thee to wife; then thou shalt bring her home to thy house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails; and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month; and after that thou mayest go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife. And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not deal with her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her.

Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, tribe by tribe; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment. Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons; neither shalt thou take a gift; for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous. Justice, justice shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not plant thee an Asherah of any kind of tree beside the altar of the LORD thy God, which thou shalt make thee. Neither shalt thou set thee up a pillar, which the LORD thy God hateth...
